Found In

South America

Native to South America, Blue and Gold macaws are mainly found in Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and Paraguay. They inhabit tropical forests, woodlands, and savannah areas with large trees for nesting and foraging.

Habitat

Tropical

Blue-and-gold macaws live in tropical and subtropical forests, woodlands, and savannahs. They prefer areas with tall trees that provide food, shelter, and nesting sites, allowing them to forage, fly, and communicate safely within their flock.

Diet

Herbivores

Blue-and-gold macaws are herbivores, feeding mainly on fruits, nuts, seeds, and berries. They use their strong, curved beaks to crack open shells and access a wide variety of forest foods.

Behaviour

Highly Social

Social, curious, and incredibly clever, these parrots love life in pairs or small flocks. Active during the day, they’re always on the move flying, calling, grooming, and exploring. Playful and inquisitive, they’re natural problem solvers and full of personality.

Size

76–86 cm

Large parrots, Blue and Gold macaws measure about 76–86 cm in length from beak to tail and weigh 900–1,500 g. Their long tails and wings make them agile fliers in the forest canopy.

Blue-and-gold macaws can live for 30–35 years in the wild, with some individuals reaching up to 50 years in protected or captive environments.

Conservation Status
