Asian small-clawed otters are native to Southeast Asia, including countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Freshwater
Calling rivers, streams, wetlands, and mangroves home, Asian small-clawed otters thrive in places rich with vegetation and shallow water, where they find food, shelter, and safe spots to rest and raise their young.
Carnivorous
Asian small-clawed otters are carnivorous, feeding mainly on fish, crabs, molluscs, and insects. Their sensitive, dexterous paws help them catch and handle prey with skill and precision.
Social & Playful
Social, playful, and full of energy, these otters live in close-knit family groups. Active day and night, they chatter with whistles and chirps, groom one another, and explore together. Always working as a team, they’re full of personality and fun to watch.
40-60cm
Asian small-clawed otters are the smallest otter species, measuring about 40–60 cm in body length, with tails adding another 25–35 cm, and weighing 1–5 kg.
10-15 years
Asian small-clawed otters typically live 10–15 years in the wild, with some individuals reaching up to 20 years in protected or captive environments.
Vulnerable
Classified as Vulnerable, Asian small-clawed otters pulations are threatened by habitat loss, water pollution, and hunting.
